The most important thing that you learn is not how to make this element, but how to apply symbol (map art) on the 3d object and how to use blend function.<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-104\" title=\"Illustrator-tutorial-abstract\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Illustrator-tutorial-abstract4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"402\" \/><!--more Read more --><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">1. Create new document<\/h2>\n<p>Size is not very important, but i suggest to keep it not less than 600 x 600 pixels.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">2. Create rounded rectangle<\/h2>\n<p>Now create rounded rectangle using rounded rectangle tool, if you dont see it, left click and hold until you see popup with new menu. Simple click that tool and then click anywhere on the document. When options appear, choose width and height of <strong>50 px<\/strong> and corner radius of <strong>10 px<\/strong>. Now you have created a small rectangle.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12\" title=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">3. Create second rounded rectangle<\/h2>\n<p>To create second rectangle select the first one when press and hold <em><strong>alt <\/strong><\/em>key,while holding <em><strong>alt <\/strong><\/em>key press <em><strong>right arrow<\/strong><\/em> key on the keyboard. <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">You need to press it only once! <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now release <em><strong>alt <\/strong><\/em>key and then press and hold <em><strong>right arrow<\/strong><\/em> key till you place the second rectangle in for some distace from first one.<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24\" title=\"2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"160\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">4. Go to blend options<\/h2>\n<p>On the illustrators menu bar select <em><strong>object\/blend\/blend options. <\/strong><\/em>From the spacing popup menu select Specified Steps. This function will insert number of object copies in between those two that you draw.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27\" title=\"3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/3.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"266\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">5. Make blend<\/h2>\n<p>Now go to the <strong><em>Object\/Blend\/<\/em><\/strong> and hit <strong><em>Make. <\/em><\/strong>Make sure that you have selected both rectangles before blending.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28\" title=\"4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"320\" \/>Bellow you can see that i have blended in 10 rectangles between first two. \u00a0It doesnt matter how much you will choose, make sure you see some gaps between rectangles. Now you can simply choose diferrent number of object if you want. With all rectangles selected, go again to <em><strong>Object\/blend\/blend options<\/strong><\/em>. Play with it.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-29\" title=\"5\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/5.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"219\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">6. Simplify object<\/h2>\n<p>With all rectangles still selected, go to <strong><em>Object\/ Expand<\/em><\/strong> and hit ok. After you expand it you no longer be able to choose steps to blend in. You now have expanded it to single grouped elements. You have to do it if you want to edit seperate elements.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">7. Make a copy of first set of rectangles<\/h2>\n<p>Select all rectangles and make a copy of it like in the previous step but now not to the right direction, but to the bottom. While holding <strong><em>alt <\/em><\/strong>key press <strong><em>down arrow<\/em><\/strong> once to make one copy. When release <strong><em>alt <\/em><\/strong>key and move the copy to the bottom. Make some space in between to insert more elements.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39\" title=\"6\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/61.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">8. Blend it<\/h2>\n<p>Select both groups of rectangles. Now in the <strong><em>blend options<\/em><\/strong> menu i selected 5 steps. Go to <strong><em>Object\/Blend\/Make.<\/em><\/strong> Again expand it to single elements. After you expand it, you wont be able to choose diferent number of steps again. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">While you see that blue line, you can choose diferent number of steps.<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-42\" title=\"7\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/7.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"405\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">9. Convert element to symbol<\/h2>\n<p>Now that you have created the element that you like (more or less), you can convert it to symbol by dragging it to <em><strong>Symbols<\/strong><\/em> menu. Symbols menu by default should be in the right. If you dont see it, go to <strong><em>Window <\/em><\/strong>in the menu bar and select <strong><em>Symbols. <\/em><\/strong>Now you should see it. Delete all elements what you have created. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">You now have \u00a0it in your symbols menu and you no longer need it on the document!<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46\" title=\"9\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/9.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"421\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">You have ended first part of the tutorial!<\/h2>\n<p>Now you should take a break before moving on to the next part, because reading from computer monitor is not good for your health. Take a coffe break \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-87 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/coffe-copy.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">10. Moving on<\/h2>\n<p>Now that you have previuosly created element in your symbols menu, create another rectangle with width and height of arround 500 px and corner radius of 10 px. You can simply create it by clicking on the rounded rectangle icon and draw it with mouse or with single mouse click and then choose options.<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-92\" title=\"10\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/10.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"498\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">11. Convert rectangle to 3d object<\/h2>\n<p>Select object and go to <em><strong>Effect\/ 3D\/ Extrude &amp; Bevel.<\/strong><\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-93\" title=\"11\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/11.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"682\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">12. Apply the map art on rectangle<\/h2>\n<p>When <em><strong>3D Options<\/strong><\/em> menu appear, click <em><strong>Map Art<\/strong><\/em> button.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-94\" title=\"12\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/12.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"418\" \/>Now select our previously created object from Symbol popup menu.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-95\" title=\"13\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/13.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"392\" \/>Select <strong><em>Invisible Geometry<\/em><\/strong> and click <strong><em>Scale to Fit<\/em><\/strong>. Click OK.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-96\" title=\"14\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/14.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">13. Choose 3D Options<\/h2>\n<p>You will see only the symbol that you have created in the first part of the tutorial. The big rectangle now is invisible and the symbol is now conected to that big rectangle. Now back in the <strong><em>3D options. <\/em><\/strong>Choose perspective number, for example 100-130 and click OK.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99\" title=\"15\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/151.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"405\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">14. Clean up the mess<\/h2>\n<p>You have succesfully applied symbol on 3D rectangle. Now press right mouse button and select Ungroup. Keep doing that until you see <strong><em>Rellease Cliping Mask, <\/em><\/strong>then hit it. Then again ungroup all element. By doing that you will remove all trash that 3D function has created (invisible big rectangle).<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-100\" title=\"17\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/17.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"582\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">15. Thats it!<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">To duplicate object, press and hold <strong><em>alt, <\/em><\/strong>then drag element with mouse to your desired location then release alt and then release mouse button.<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-101\" title=\"Illustrator-tutorial-abstract\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vexels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Illustrator-tutorial-abstract2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"503\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this tutorial i will show you how to create abstract design element.
